Now that the old floor was completely dug out and the waterproof membrane installed, it was time to “rebuild” the floor. First they covered over the rubber membrane with a plastic interlocking “wall-to-wall” tile. This is the first step in constructing a structured flooring system. Then a wired grid is laid on top of that for rigid support.
On top of that, they pour a 6″ layer of concrete. Since the work is being done inside a house, each bit of concrete had to be manually brought in by the wheelbarrow full and shoveled onto the surface. A very labor-intensive process that took about a week to finish. Then the new concrete floor needs time to cure and, if there is rain, that introduces another delay. Here are a few photos showing the step-by-step process.
